Vancouver Girl

Having a girl in Vancouver is tough. It seems like the
attitudes of young women have changed dramatically since I was a girl, and given
the
things that are shown on TV and movies
nowadays, it does not surprise me that more and more young girls are becoming pregnant at
earlier ages. What's a mother to do, when she's done all she can to help her
daughter understand the ills of society?

Change is Good?

Something tells me that our area is due for a drastic change. Given the
Olympics being here recently, I've observed some major changes to our town,
and
some are not for the better. Is there a way to appease the masses while
staying true to your constituents? I think that the answer is no.

Best of YouTube

I don't watch as many movies as I used to. Largely because I'm less often
up for a 90-120+ minute commitment. Too lazy. I watch a lot of TV, especially PVRed or acquired from the netosphere.
Discovery Channel, History Channel, Food Network. Aqua Teen.

There's a huge amount of entertainment to be had in snippets of even less
than 24 or 48 minutes, too. Here's this week's Best of YouTube.

Let me know how you liked it.

Hidden Powers of Rain

Rain is the cure for life's
ailments; in the rain
your tears are guarded, and in
its noise your cries are not heard. Instead of loathing the rain today, I will embrace it for
its healing powers. _ I'm a mother, blogger, and fashion expert who enjoys ethnic dining and

Composting and You

Recycling is not only good for the environment, it is good for your soil;
composting is a great way to keep your gardens growing healthy and strong.
Remember to preserve all of your old food waste to add to your garden today!

Word Lotion

Some words are harder to absorb than others; today my friend called me a "dunce" in jest, but for some reason it stayed with me. -Posted by Lyn Valerie

Stomping with the Big Dogs

Whoever said that ra inboots are just for children told a really bad lie! I wore my rainboots
to work today, and received so many compliments that the shoe store called and gave me a huge
discount on a new pair! The power of word-of-mouth marketing is ever
present! I'm a mother, blogger, and fashion expert who enjoys ethnic dining and

Chocolate Rain

I love to embrace my husband when its raining. Thunder and lighting brings a
surge to our relationship, and ignites a spark in our hearts. After looking
at the forecast, I noticed that it is going to rain for quite some time; I
couldn't be happier.

Ladybugs and Unique Love

Volkswagen Beetles are my absolute favorite car. the body is so cool; I just
love how it is shaped, and the engine being in the back is neat as well. I think
that if I could improve one thing on the car, it
would be to give the interior
a bit more space.

Latest Toy

My latest toy-- no, TOOL. Bell Turbostick. Over the last week I've lost at least 25 hours of
productivity due to net connections I've depended on being down/unavailable.

I took steps. I'm home all day today and tomorrow, so haven't yet cracked
the box. Looking forward to it, though!

Small Girl, Big Truck

I've always wanted a big, overbearing truck. It's something about a petite
woman driving a big truck that screams "get out of the way!" In my life,
people tend to overlook me because of my size; with my new big truck, I can
now let everyone know who I am!

Questioning Manhood

Sometimes men choose to get cars that fulfill a need in their lives; this is
especially true of my friend. He's not the best looking guy, but his
car is most definitely a beauty! Its really small and very fast though, so I wonder
what that says about his... manhood.

Free Fashionistas

There are those who choose to follow fashion trends, and those who choose to break them. I'm in the middle- I wear what I want, within means, and look to popular culture for inspiration, not fact. There's something to be said about those who embrace individuality; its a breed of person that seems to be nearly extinct.

Intimacy For Dummies

Kissing has become a severly overlooked pasttime. For some reason, it seems the young folks today feel that kissing is much more intimate than intercourse, which leads to destructive actions in regards to sharing what is most intimate about their bodies with anyone. Its high time we correctly teach our children the importance of bonding, and real value of intimacy.

PB & J Magic!

Sometimes the best food is the simpliest; I had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich today that tastes as if the gods themselves created it. As I finished thelast bite of my wonderfully minimalistic sandwich, I took a second to ponder why it is that my discerning palette was so pleased with something as basic as an All-American peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Bacon Baby

Those that deny their love for bacon either did not have the pleasure of sinking their teeth into a grease laden slice, or are so vegan that they wouldn't recognize bacon if it did a dance on their plates. I tried to go without bacon for a year, and in that time it was the only thing I desired. Talk about torture!

Let Your Mind Wander

I love to meditate sometimes. To clear your mind of things that may have been bothering you throughout the day is not only good for your soul, but for your health as well. Today is the first day I incorporated meditation in my daily routine, and I'd have to say that it's wonderful!

Profiling Nouveau

Sometimes we tend to forget that people are just that; today I observed a man following an African immigrant around a store as she shopped. It seemed to me that there was no real reason to stop the woman, as she eventually made a sizeable purchase; I suspect that she simply fit the profile of a thief. When is this sort of behaviour going to end?

WTF Moment of the Day

I can't stand hypocrites! Today, while walking down http://www.mapleridgechrysler.com/>the street, I noticed a woman obviously pregnant holding a small sign that read "Abortion is Wrong!" I asked her why she decided to protest in an area that did not have any clinics in sight, http://www.mapleridge-vw.ca/> and she mentioned that there are people who knew that she aborted her first child on the other side of town. It was a major "WTF" moment, to say the least!

Work Out The Workout

Today I started a formal workout, and I'd have to say that I hated it profusely! There's nothing worse than doing the same routines over and over to the sound of corny techno music; I wish that there was a better way to workout, but unfortunately for the time I have allotted, getting in shape to the sound of 80's techno is what I'm reduced to performing each morning. Oh well- at least I will lose some of this excess blubber!

Losing Weight Can Be All Too Easy

This morning a fitness client started out the pre-workout stretching by telling me he'd do his best today, but at midday Monday he'd been levelled by food poisoning.  He suspected it was a shrimp & spinach salad he'd had, which sounded plausible to me.  (Shellfish tends to be among the iffiest of foods.)  Anyway, I'd planned to have him do only upper body today anyway, so he was ok.  I'd hate to have to do lunges after, um, squatting for 30+ hours.  And forget Zerchers!

He's been happy with his progress over the last bit, but has been saying he'd like to take off 5 or so more pounds.  I suspect he did that just fine.  Losing weight by way of blasting from both ends is all too easy.  And if you're going for the alabaster Kidman look, the paleness might be ideal.  But overall I advise against this method.

And after this whole Gulf oil spill, shrimp is going to be 'spensive, too.

Happy May 5th Everyone!

From wikipedia:

Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for "fifth of May") is a holiday that commemorates the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at theBattle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of Mexican General Ignacio Zaragoza SeguĂn.[1][2] While not an "obligatory federal holiday" in Mexico, it is celebrated primarily in the state of Puebla, and in the United States.[3][4]

Cinco de Mayo is not "an obligatory federal holiday" in Mexico, but rather a holiday that can be observed voluntarily.[5][6] While Cinco de Mayo has limited significance nationwide in Mexico, the date is observed in the United States (also voluntarily) and other locations around the world as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride.[7] Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico's Independence Day,[8] which actually is September 16,[9] the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico.[10]

Tay Sachs Disease

The Cure Tay-Sachs Foundation (CTSF) has lately awarded over $208,000 in three research grants to study the degenerative neurological illness. Tay-Sachs, which is always fatal in children, appears in the absence of the enzyme Hex A, which permits fats to build up in brain cells, finally destroying them.
